Objective: To investigate the potential role of wild birds as fecal spreaders of enteropathogenic, enterohemorrhagic and Shiga-toxins producing Escherichia coli E. Methods: Fecal samples collected from wild birds of different orders and species were submitted to molecular analyses. In particular, eaeA encoding intimin, hlyA encoding for hemolysin, stx1 and stx2 genes encoding Shiga-toxins 1 and 2, respectively, were investigated.
November 6, Asian jumping earthworms are carving out territory all over the U. Midwest and East Coast, leaving in their wake changed soils that are just beginning to be studied.
Tony Wu, 21, of Bridgeport, said he almost fell for the foul trick last week: He went to his car and was about to open the door when he spotted feces under the handle. Late to work, Wu managed to get into the car and then rushed through a carwash to clean up the poop. Afterward, Wu talked to neighbors and posted to a neighborhood watch Facebook group, curious to see if anyone else had experienced anything similar.
A study was carried out to investigate the presence of Echinococcus multilocularis in red foxes Vulpes vulpes in two regions of Turkey—central Anatolia in Asia Minor and Thrace in the European part of Turkey. A total of putative fox feces were collected from central Anatolia specimens in 59 locations and from Thrace specimens in locations. All samples were examined by the flotation and sieving method for taeniid eggs, and positive and putative samples were further analyzed by multiplex PCR.
The November issue of Bloomberg Markets magazine, in a piece on food poisoning and safety, says that it is common practice in some parts of Asia to feed fish pig waste. It describes, for example, the sanitary conditions at a fish factory on the southern coast of Vietnam. The shrimp at some plants are packed in ice.
All rights reserved. Captive civets are sometimes fed only coffee cherries, the fruit that produces coffee beans. In the wild, their diet includes fruit, insects, and reptiles.
Everybody poops, and sometimes that poop can help enrich and fertilize ecosystems. Wempner will be presenting her research at the annual meeting of the Geological Society of America in Indianapolis on Wednesday. They leave little balls of soil.
Producers of the coffee beans argue that the process may improve coffee through two mechanisms, selection — civets choosing to eat only certain cherries — and digestion — biological or chemical mechanisms in the animal's digestive tract altering the composition of the coffee cherries. The traditional method of collecting feces from wild civets has given way to intensive farming methods in which civets in battery cage systems are force-fed the cherries. This method of production has raised ethical concerns about the treatment of civets due to "horrific conditions" including isolation, poor diet, small cages and a high mortality rate.
Additional measures of well-being would be beneficial to the management of a variety of species in human care, including elephants. Immunoglobulin A IgA is an immune protein associated with pathogen defense, which has been demonstrated to decrease during times of stress, and increase in response to positive stimuli. This paper describes the development and validation of an enzyme immunoassay EIA for the quantification of Asian elephant Elephas maximus IgA in feces, saliva, urine, and serum.
